Hinterland HOTEL LA SIESTA

The Hotel La Siesta is in Torino di Sangro, in the province of Chieti. It is a small village along the Abruzzese coast, plunged into the green, among the hills and the Adriatic sea.

It has a lot of places of interest: the beaches of Le Morge and Costa Verde; the Lecceta, natural reserve; the English War Cemetery , where rest in peace the soldiers who fought in this area in 1943; a lot of culinary specialties and much more.

The Lecceta
It is one of the few woods along the Adriatic coast, it is a really unique place that has a great importance for the fauna. For instance, the Lecceta is the only place in all the Region where the Hermann’s tortoise (Testudo hermanni) lives and reproduces.

The trabocchi
These are ancient fishing machines that have a shape of a net suspended upon water: something that makes unique the landscape. Some of the trabocchi can nowadays be visited and some host restaurants where it is possible to taste typical dishes fish based: a full tasting experience!

Natural reserve “Bosco di Don Venanzio”
Easy to be reached from the Hotel La Siesta there is this a wood, that is equipped with a tourist center and a pic nic area.

Santuario dei Miracoli (Miracles’ Sanctuary)
Many pilgrims come to this Sanctuary all year long; it is one of the most important Sanctuaries devoted to the Virgin Mary of the all Southern Italy.

San Giovanni in Venere Abbey
This Abbey was built in 1200 and it is in a favorable position, from which it is possible to be delighted by a stunning panorama.

Vasto
It is the greatest city of this area and it is also a well known and appreciated bathing city. Vasto has a long beach and in summer it is the set of a lot of events. In Vasto there is also a water theme park, the Aqualand and a lot of places of interest. You cannot miss the concert that is held the 15th of August and the amazing fireworks; who likes history, instead, can’t miss the “Tosno d’Oro”, an historical reconstruction.

Lanciano
A really ancient city, it was very important in the Middle Age as a trade center. Nowadays it still preserves its Medieval “botteghe” (workshops). In the city it is possible to visit a lot of churches and historical buildings. Among the most interesting events there is the “Mastrogiurato” that is held every year at the end of August.

Towards the mountain
From the Hotel la Siesta it is possible to leave for the Valle del Sangro and the Bomba lake, or visit the Majelletta, a very important ski resort that in summer offers to the tourists a breathtaking panorama. From the Majelletta it is possible to leave for excursions to the Amaro mount, at about 2.793 meters.

"Good for holiday or business"

I slept in this hotel for one night when I was travelling to South of Italy. It was nice and clean hotel, with a small children playground outside and fairly large parking area.

It looks like it is in a developing area as there isn't much around, really.
